The Open-Ending for the Girl Who Suffered Throughout Her Life and Met a Tragic End: Eleven, Stranger Things

The final season of Stranger Things has led the audience to mixed emotions. Some were satisfied with the ending, which rolled back to the nostalgic feeling and gave them all closure. On the other hand, many people felt disappointed for various reasons. The audience's disappointment with the Stranger Things finale was due to many factors, one of them being the open ending for Eleven (Jane Hopper). Despite having an open ending that leaves it up to the audience, many people felt like they had lost someone they loved dearly. People watched her grow up only to witness her tragic ending. No matter how the ending goes, Eleven is alone, without her loved ones.

From the very first season of Stranger Things, Eleven was introduced as a tool, a science experiment. Since then, it's a constant battle to survive from everyone who wants to hunt her. It is terrifying to live on the edge of uncertainty, where one must worry about one's existence so as not to be found. Always hiding one's existence must be very exhausting. And Eleven has been doing that since she managed to escape from Hawkins Lab. In addition to always being aware of her surroundings and staying alert, Eleven is also searching for her true identity after her entire life was manipulated by Dr. Brenner. The traumatic effects of Hawkins Lab will always remain with her.

Now, Eleven is just a name. No one knows where she is. The people she loves cannot be with her. She herself is nowhere to be found.

So, what was the point of giving her the unknown ending where she disappeared? Is Eleven's destiny truly to be alone? How important is it to remove Eleven from the story in terms of writing? All we know from the story is that the purpose of Eleven sacrificing herself is to end the cycle. It is for the sake of peace in society, including Eleven's loved ones. But what is the purpose of making an open ending for Eleven?

The ending for Eleven was written to ensure that the story of Stranger Things would remain in the minds of viewers. The writers and creators of the series want viewers to think about where Eleven went and speculate about what happened to her. The ambiguous ending encourages viewers to develop their own theories and thoughts, leaving a lasting impression on the series. Discussions about Eleven's ending, which spread across the internet, sparked a huge debate that made Stranger Things explode in popularity even after the season ended. The Duffer Brothers successfully flooded the internet with fan theories predicting Eleven's existence. This lasted for several days.

In conclusion, the ending of Eleven was not created for Eleven's story. Eleven does not have a happy ending, which is usually given to characters who have suffered throughout their lives. Viewers can experience hope and happiness along with the characters they love. However, the ending of Eleven is written to attract viewers' attention. Hence, they will continue to talk about it.
